Preface

        This preface consists of three sections:
        a) The new section, which is a review of the Rapid-Q Documentation Project (RQDP);
        b) The original preface, written by compiler's author, William Yu, as it was last updated, on August 29, 2000.
        We think we owe this to the author, no matter what happened since then: he made all this possible. And, (why not?) maybe someday, he will take a look at his "child".
        c) The Hystory of the Rapid-Q Documentation Project (RQDP) ;

         a.1. The beginning

        This Project has been born at the end of April 2001, as a need of my own: when I discovered the Rapid-Q on the NET, obviously, one of the first steps was to read the docs, to see what is all that about.
        The original documentation, is a pretty good start -I said- but where is the rest of the stuff? Well, at this point, I came to realise a thing that all the Group knows: no further documentation, no other improvements, no nothing.
        When I read a certain mail from Group's archive, I was so disappoited, that I wanted to unsubscribe the Group, and move to something else.
        But...
        It happened so, that in those days, my mailbox was almost flodded with mails from the Group... After a few days, I came to realise that Rapid-Q is not any more a program, or a compiler, or ... sort of that. No, sir!
        Rapid-Q is a spirit!
        We belive that the Rapid-Q Spirit, is something which cannot be described (maybe I'm not that good at this point), defined, but makes the things go...
        We didn't have all we wanted. We still don't. But here we are! And WE ARE!
        We are working, and we like what we do. We all hope this project will grow enough to meet your needs, at least at some certain level. (We can't please everyone. Nobody does, except for God)

a.2. The next step

        We are not far from the beginning, still...
        There are lots of things to do. We can't cover all of them for now though. This is why the "RapidQProjects" group was founded. One of the main goals of this group, is to gather together all the ideas, all the trouble and all the solutions we found using Rapid-Q.
        That is not an easy task, but what a waste would be, if nothing is done.
        There are already two1 Rapid-Q Groups:
        Rapidq, the original group, founded by William Yu, which is some sort of a Lab, where we do all sort of things: exchange sorce code, ask questions, find answers. Sometimes, we argue, on no matter what. But we're humans afterall, aren't we?
         RapidQProjects, a newer group, where we try to join our efforts in projects like this.
        The goals of this project - Rapid-Q Documentation Project (RQDP) - , are to build a good documentation, at maximum possible extent:
         -a.2.1. Improove the original documentation, with navigation capabilities (working on it!), since it's really a headache if you want to get fast to a certain subject;
         -a.2.2. Add new sections, such as:
         -new pages with more detailed explanations on various issues, many examples, to help the new ones to build faster small applications and, of course, the more experienced to speed up development of larger projects;
         -some sort of a programmer's guide: we'll try to join in this section the experience of all group members, consisting in solutions, sorce code, small applications, step by step apps development ... you name it!
        We'll try to follow the "Cut & Paste" philosophy, as much as possible.
        Since this project is no older than one month (at 10th June 2001), we haven't covered much of all this. There's a hard working time ahead, but a "Release 1" of the RQDP can be expected this month, maybe next days.
        One of the goals we have to reach is the update of the official site,

www.basicguru.com

        This hasn't been updated for a (too) long time already, and we aren't dead...
        With all this said, one more thing to add: for any requests on "Rapid-Q Documentation Project" , any ideas, contributions, anything valuable for the development of the project, you can mail me at the

RapidQProjects@yahoogroups.com or at

rapidq@yahoogroups.com.

        There is no FAQ section yet, but this won't be so for any longer. Waiting for your questions, at the above adresses.

1   Actually, there are three groups: "RAPIDQ" - The Main Group , Andreas Fink's "RapidQ FAQ Project" , and the youngest, "RapidQProjects" - Serban Stanescu's for Rapid-Q Documentation Project. (Sorry for the mistake... :) -Serban S.)
